Their first appearance in an international tournament came in the 1996 ACC Trophy. They failed to progress beyond the first round, and were not seen in the tournament again until 2006 where once failed to progress beyond the first round, although their final group match saw the remarkable occurrence of their opponents Saudi Arabia scoring 499 runs against them, giving them a somewhat unwanted place in cricket history.
With the separation of the ACC Trophy into Elite and Challenge divisions, following their performance at the 2006 ACC Trophy Brunei have since competed in the Challenge divisions in both 2009, in which they came 6th, and 7th in the 2010 competition.
