Chimakurthy is a town in Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh, India. This place is famous for a special type of black granite which is not found anywhere else in the world. This granite is exported to all corners of the globe. Granite is the hardest building stone, and black granite is often used in decorative applications and luxury floorings.
Mining is a large industry in Chimakurthi. A precious stone with a great demand over the world countries for luxurious infra is available at Chimakurthi village and nearby places where one would find about 50 Galaxy quarries however not all operate 12 months of the year. Black Galaxy granite is undoubtedly one of the world's most popular and successful granites and has been exported to every continent. It is a fine to medium-grained, black gabbro with golden-yellow sparkling broncite scales. A total estimated production of about 40000 cu mts mining of black galaxy granite is observed over here which are in 34 hectares. In and around this Town, several granite types can also be seen, including steel grey, black pearl, s k blue, miracle white, and arizona gold. This mining fetches a great revenue in the form of royalty to the government. The industry has been providing direct employment to 15,000 and indirect jobs to another 40000.
