Farakka (community development block) is an administrative division in Jangipur subdivision of Murshidabad district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Farakka police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Farakka. There is one census town in this block: Farrakka Barrage Township.[1][2]

Farakka community development block has an area of 144.78 km2.[2] The holy river Ganga flow through this block.
Gram panchayats
Gram panchayats in Farakka block/ panchayat samiti are: Arjunpur, Bahadurpur, Beniagram, Bewa I, Bewa II, Imamnagar, Mahadevnagar, Maheshpur and Nayansukhi.[3]
In the north malda district is connected by Farakka Baragge though railway and by road (NH-34).ON the west, it has border with Jharkhand.
Demographics
As per 2001 census, Farakka block has a total population of 219,775, out of which 112,447 were males and 107,328 were females. Farakka block registered a population growth of 24.13 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for the district was 23.70 per cent.[2] Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4] More than 75% people are Muslim followed by Hindu, Christan. Literacy rate is nearly 55% which is far below the state literacy rate.
Transport
NH 34 passes through Farakka block.It is well connected to kolkata by railway line. National High-80 connect Farakka and Jharkhand.
Healthcare
Farakka block is one of the areas where ground water is affected by arsenic contamination.[5]
Crops
Main cops cultivated are Paddy, Jute, Potato, Onion, Garlic, Brinjal. The source of water is ponds and tubewells. Famous fruits are mango, litchi and jackfruit.
Occupation
Mainly agriculture is the main occupation. 10% people do Government jobs . Women are mainly bidi workers. Bidi is the largest small-scale industry.
