Kushmandi (community development block) is an administrative division in Gangarampur subdivision of Dakshin Dinajpur district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Kushmandi police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Kushmandi.[1][2]

Geography

Kushmandi is located at 25°31′20″N 88°21′26″E / 25.52236°N 88.357269°E / 25.52236; 88.357269{{#coordinates:25.52236|N|88.357269|E||||| | |name= }}.

Kushmandi community development block has an area of 310.50  km2.[2]

The Tangon River flows through the Kushmandi block.[3]

Gram panchayats of Kushmandi block/ panchayat samiti are: Akcha, Berail, Deul, Kalikamora, Karanji, Kushmandi, Maligaon and Udaypur.[4]

Ayra forest

A forest which is situated by the side of India-Bangladesh border,with many ponds and old trees.It is very beautiful place where many people come for picnic in winter.On X-mas day and New year place become crowded by the travelers for enjoying nature's beauty of the place and Mahipal dighi.

Mahipal Dighi

Mahipal dighi,a large lake,is located in kushmandi block.It length is 4 km approx and diameter 0.6 km. It was dug by King Mahipal II of the pal dynasty. There is a debris of Nilkuthi on the northern bank of the lack which was established by Mr.Thomas,an Indigo merchant,a friend of William Carry

During winter migratory birds flock to this lake in large number. One of the most attractive things is Lotus.The whole lake covered with Lotus.

On western bank Mahipal High school is situated.

Temple of Lord Shiva

An ancient temple situated at Aminpur. This is "Panchamukhi" (Five headed) Shiva temple, which is very rare in India. This temple is constructed by Zamindar of Aminpur. Famous Maatia Maa Kali temple is also situation nearby.

Demographics

As per 2001 census, Kushmandi block had a total population of 175,047, out of which 89,150 were males and 85,897 were females. Kushmandi block registered a population growth of 21.16 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for the district was 22.11 per cent.[2] Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[5]

Education

Primary and High school education is better than any other places. There one of the well known school is [Kushmandi High School Estd. in the of 1927]Mahipal High School. Aminpur High School was established in 1897.

But there is no college in this division.
