Weinberger was formerly a member of the airport commission for Burlington.[4] He was the Chittenden County Democratic Chair during the 2004 election cycle.[5]

Mayor of Burlington

Weinberger was elected mayor of Burlington on March 6, 2012. He is the first Democratic mayor since current Independent US Senator Bernie Sanders took office in 1981.[3] In the election for Mayor, Weinberger was endorsed by Sanders as well as former Progressive Mayor Peter Clavelle and Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin.[3] Weinberger won with 57.7 percent of the vote.[3]
