Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) is a private university located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. This institute was established in 1981 by the parent body Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM). It has been awarded "Five Star" rating and "A" grade by the NAAC and UGC respectively. NMIMS has also been awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Certification by ICL in 2004 and a "A***" rating by CRISIL.[2] The institute was granted "Deemed University" status by the UGC in 2003 and can hence grant full academic degrees on its students. It has campuses in Mumbai, Shirpur, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. It offers courses/programs across diverse fields such as Management, Technology, Science, Architecture, Pharmacy, Commerce and Economics.[3]

There is also a campus in Shirpur,[4] Bengaluru[5] and Hyderabad.[6]

NMIMS SBM is one of the premier business schools in India. It is located in Mumbai, India's Financial Capital.[7]

History

The year 1981 saw the opening up of the Management Education System in Mumbai with the decision of the University of Mumbai to allow new management Institutes to be set up. The pressing demand for management education, coupled with a keen sense of social commitment on the part of SVKM led to the birth of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies named after the intrepid entrepreneur the Late Shri. Narsee Monjee. NMIMS made a humble beginning in 1981, as a Management Institute of the Mumbai University, offering two year full time Masters program in Management Studies, with 4 full time faculty, 3162 books and an intake of 40 students, above Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle (west).

Accreditation

National Assessment & Accreditation Council [NAAC] re-accreditation awarded NMIMS (Deemed University) an ‘A’ grade, with a score between 85-90%. NMIMS has also been awarded by the Golden Peacock National Training Award for the year 2011. NMIMS-MBA Program awarded A+++ rating ( the highest rating) by CRISIL 2010-11. In 2011-12 MBA Program was again rated A+++ by CRISIL.

Rankings

NMIMS-SBM consistently ranks among the top 15 business schools in India. It was ranked #9 by MBA Universe's 2014 Rankings,[8] conducted by Dr. Mendu Rammohan Rao, Former Dean, Indian School of Business & Former Director, IIM Bangalore. Earlier it was pegged at #5 by MBA Universe's 2013 Rankings,[9] which were conducted under former IIM Ahmedabad director, Dr. Bakul Dholakia. As per Business World's 2014 rankings,[10] the institute has been nationally ranked at #2 in Industry Interaction. Business Today's 2014 rankings [11] pegged NMIMS-SBM at #11.

Campus

NMIMS-SBM is conveniently located at JVPD Scheme, Mumbai at a walking distance from Vile Parle railway station. The institute has 40,000 square feet of built up area. The classrooms, the seminar and the conference halls have been fully air – conditioned for long hours of teaching and interactive participation with a spacious well – planned campus. All classrooms and seminar halls are equipped with state-of-the-art audio-video aids and catering facilities.[12]

Library - The R. M. Desai Library Learning Resource Centre

The well furnished and air conditioned NMIMS library has a stock of more than 42,000 volumes and subscribes to about 308 Indian and Foreign periodicals spanning all aspects of management. The library also houses 521 video’s, 319 audio’s, 187 CD’s, 274 VCD’s, annual reports, management games, news clippings, newsletters and case studies. The open access system facilities free use of books on the shelf.
The library is a member of BCL (British Council Library), AIRC (American Information Resource Centre), BMA (Bombay Management Association), MANLIBNET (Management Library Network), AVEHI (Audio Video Edu Resource Centre), Advance Standard Council of India and ECCH (European Case Clearing House Ltd).[13]

Asian Paints Computer Centre

The Computer center is equipped with branded personal computers adequately supported by 3mbps shared leased line for Internet connectivity. It is also equipped with a wide range of licensed system software and applications software. The entire campus is connected with Wi-Fi network.[14]

International Linkages

NMIMS-SBM has a partnership with the Harvard Business School for a Faculty Development Programme and has nominated faculty to participate in the HBS Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning Programme at the Harvard University, Boston, USA. Besides, the India Site License Agreement signed with Harvard Business School Publishing ensures electronic access to HBSP materials.
