Opportunity cost of capital

The opportunity cost of capital is the expected rate of return forgone by bypassing other potential investment activities (the lost opportunity) in choosing a particular use for capital. It is usually referred to more succinctly as the cost of capital.
It is a rate of return that investors could earn in financial markets.
