Pammal is a suburb of the city of Chennai,town in Kancheepuram district of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is a neighbourhood of the city of Chennai and in 2011 had a population of 75,870.
Leather and tannery factories are present in and around Pammal which are labour intensive and employs many people .[citation needed] Pammal Sambandha Mudaliar, the father of modern Tamil theatre, was born in Pammal.[citation needed] It is very close to Chennai International Airport (MAA). There are many famous temples in Pammal from various religions like Hindu, Muslim, Christian and even Jain.
Demographics
According to 2011 census, Pammal had a population of 75,870 with a sex-ratio of 998 females for every 1,000 males, much above the national average of 929.[1] A total of 8,264 were under the age of six, constituting 4,223 males and 4,041 females. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes accounted for 19.28% and .16% of the population respectively. The average literacy of the town was 81.13%, compared to the national average of 72.99%.[1] The town had a total of 18812 households. There were a total of 29,090 workers, comprising 105 cultivators, 154 main agricultural labourers, 370 in house hold industries, 24,304 other workers, 4,157 marginal workers, 47 marginal cultivators, 63 marginal agricultural labourers, 127 marginal workers in household industries and 3,920 other marginal workers.[2]

The Nearest Railway Station is at Pallavaram 3 km away, Chennai International Airport is 3.5 km away, and Pammal Bus stand is located between Pallavaram and Kunrathur which is an important link road which links Pallavaram and Poonamallee.
