Roc Nation Sports is the sports management division of American entertainment company Roc Nation.

History

Roc Nation Sports was founded by Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter in 2013. He also announced a partnership with Creative Artists Agency, a well regarded talent agency based in Los Angeles. The company is billed as a "full-service sports management company".[1] Roc Nation Sports' first major move was signing New York Yankees All-Star second baseman Robinson Canó.[2] They have also signed New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz and WNBA prospect Skylar Diggins to Roc Nation Sports.[3][4] Jay-Z also showed interest in signing ice hockey prospect Seth Jones to Roc Nation Sports after the 2013 NHL Draft.[5] In May 2013, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith joined the agency as his new representation.[6] He is the second NFL player to join Roc Nation Sports.[6] On June 20, 2013 it was revealed that Jay-Z was officially certified as a sports agent for the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball.[7] On June 24, 2013 Roc Nation Sports added the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder's superstar Kevin Durant to the agency.[8] On February 24, 2014 wide receiver Hakeem Nicks of the Indianapolis Colts joined Roc Nation Sports.[9] On May 1, 2014 Roc Nation Sports added James Young of the Kentucky Wildcats, predicted to go during the first round of the 2014 NBA draft.[10] On July 11, 2014, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown left the firm after just two months with the company.[11] In November 2014, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant would also join the company.
