Savage Weekend is an American horror film. It was filmed in 1976 as The Killer Behind the Mask and was eventually released in 1979 by Cannon Films. It was written, produced and directed by David Paulsen and stars Christopher Allport, David Gale, William Sanderson and a young Yancy Butler. It has been cited as an early slasher film.


A group of friends leave New York City and head upstate to the country to watch a boat being built. Unfortunately, during their stay, they are stalked by a psychotic murderer wearing a ghoulish mask.

The film was released theatrically in the United States by The Cannon Group in 1979. The film was released on VHS in the 1980s by various companies, including Paragon Video Productions. The film is available on DVD through various companies, but the legality of these releases in terms of proper licensing is in question.


A sequel in the form of an independent short film titled Not Another Savage Weekend was released in 1994.
