After two seasons, Boston released him on May 11, 1901, only to be signed by the Philadelphia Phillies five days later. Barry remained with Philadelphia until he was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Frank Corridon on July 20, 1904. Chicago later sold him to the Cincinnati Reds on January 20, 1905. On July 25, 1906, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for Homer Smoot. The Cardinals sold him to the New York Giants on August 3, 1908.
