Stella Azzura Roma (English: Blue Star of Rome) is an amateur club of basketball, based in Italian capital city of Rome. Stella Azzura founded in 1938, on a pitch in the courtyard of the Collegio San Giuseppe - Istituto De Merode of Rome, where some youngsters were begin to deal with the sport of basketball.

Following several promotions over the years, the club has played a total of 22 seasons in Serie A in the late fifties and eighties, reaching fourth place on three occasions. Between 1975 and 1977 Stella Azzura played two times in the Korać Cup. Currently playing the Serie B Amateur division.

With this club some players grown and then settled at a high level, like Andrea Bargnani, before dedicated to Benetton Treviso and the Toronto Raptors. At Stella Azzura began his career as a professional coach Valerio Bianchini, the rector of the Italian coaching.

These words of Article 1 of the Statute, which has remained unchanged since 1948, are symptomatic of the spirit that animates the club. For those who attended the sports world, and the basketball in particular, the name of Stella Azzurra certainly evokes memories alive and exciting.

Immediately after the war, under the leadership of Mario frére Grottanelli, begins a selection of young players who dispute the first few games of basketball in the courtyard of the College of St. Joseph - Institute De Merode, in a field bounded by two plane trees which hung the baskets. Away from the school year 1938-39, the athletes of Stella Azzura have written important pages in a variety of sports and especially basketball goals have been achieved unexpected.

From the moment, year after year after promotion to promotion, comes the Serie A, Stella Azzurra become sporting heritage of the entire capital city and the nation as a whole. Fourteen athletes in the National team, two entries to Korac Cup (1975/1977), 22 years of militancy in Serie A, 2 times quarters in the top division. Stella Azzura can boast the likes of Presidents Chiaria, Castles, Acciari, Hausmann; Coaches such as Ferrero, Felici, Costanzo, Bianchini, Gebbia; Major players such as the same Costanzo, Rocchi, Pomilio, Dal Pozzo, Spinetti, Sorenson, Vecchiato and Gilardi.
